i was always under the impression that when billing for doctors visits and/or procedures done in the hospital, there should always be an admit & discharge date on the claim. i've been entering this on the claim for years. now i'm being told it's not necessary. is there any documentation stating that's it's either required or not required on the claim? thanx

I'd be interested in knowing about this too. We have to include hospitalization dates on all of our inpatient claims. If we bill a discharge, then we have to include the discharge date as well. If we leave it off, our clearing house will reject it the claim.

Our billing software but a hold on the claim if we don't put a date in there for anything done on an inpatient basis.
