Wiki Admit Discharge Same Date 99234-99236

Patient arrived in ER July 30 at 9 p.m.
Resident physician evaluated patient on July 30 at 11:00 p.m., then placed an inpatient status order at 11:45 p.m.
Attending physician evaluated patient the following morning on July 31 at 6 a.m.
Patient was discharged on July 31 at 12 p.m.

Would admit/discharge same date codes 99234-99236 apply because attending physician evaluated patient on same date as discharge date? Or would codes not apply because inpatient status order occurred on a different calendar date as discharge?

These codes apply when admission and discharge occur on the same calendar date.

The admission visit occurred on 7/30 even if it wasn't attested to until the following calendar day.

The discharge visit will be a separate visit by the discharging physician on 7/31.
