If a patient is same day for 8 hours or more and in that period ceases to breathe and the doctor does pronounce them(as well as admitting) do you bill 99234-99236? or would you switch to appropriate admit codes being that its not a true discharge? I know that if you have a pt ctb on a subsequent day that you can charge a discharge, I am wondering if the same would hold true for the same day codes.
