Aetna denying 99214-93 for audio visit only

Hello! Aetna has been denying our telehealth visits billed with modifier 93 when the video connection fails and the visit is completed as audio-only. (99214-93) I called and spoke with a representative who confirmed that Aetna is no longer accepting modifier 93. He advised us to use modifier 95 (which we cannot use because there was no video) and modifier GT, which, according to my 2025 CPT manual, has been deleted. It appears they want us to use 98008-98015-no mod. Does anyone know if this Mod 93 is being rejected by other insurance as well? Thank you for your help in advance!

These telemedicine codes - argh! I have not had much success getting the 98008-98015 codes paid with or without a modifier. No one seems to like the 93, but like you say, the 95 isn't correct. It's been very frustrating to say the least.
