We have an employer who has decided to send their employees out of the country for surgery. (Yes, you read this correctly!) One of our established patients has called us and told us she had surgery in Puerto Rico and wants us to follow up. She stated the company would fly her back for her post op care, but she didn't want to go. Am I the only one who is aghast? I know we can charge E/M levels for the care, but I have no idea if the employer will pay anything or apply it all to a deductible. Is this something that is happening all over the country and I'm just now finding out?

I've never heard of this, but it should be noted that Puerto Rico is not out of the country. It's a part of the United States.
