Any ambulance coders out there? I'm trying to find written documentation regarding the following scenerio: Pt is discharged from the hospital and requires non-emergent ambulance transport. During that non-emergent transport the patient develops a new medical condition. The original trip is terminated and a new emergent transport begins, taking the patient back to the original hospital he/she was just discharged from. It is my understand since the beginning and ending destination are the same that we cannot bill for this service. However, I can't find any documentation addressing such a situation.
