wondering if anyone can share their insight or opinion. With the new hernia codes I'm not seeing a good option on how to code an intraperitoneal repair of a reducible hernia. Based on the decision tree released by the ASA any upper abdominal hernia repair that is intraperitoneal should be 00790, but if the hernia is not incarcerated 00790 is not an option on the crosswalk. The decision tree specifically shows 00752 and 00750 as extraperitoneal. This is interesting since 00752 is a crosswalk option for the incarcerated codes. The decision tree shows 00752 as extraperitoneal but since it is a crosswalk for incarcerated codes, can 00752 be for an intraperitoneal approach? How should we code an intraperitoneal, but reducible, upper abdominal hernia? I am emailing the Crosswalk folks but doubt I'll get a response there. Thanks in advance!
