Hi,
Has anyone taken the Anesthesia Specialty Exam. I was just wondering what to expect. Is it like the practice exams? I find I usually do Ok with the anesthesia questions but then again if you pick the wrong surgery code you could potentially pick the wrong anesthesia code. Any advice would be appreciated.

Anesthesia Specialty Exam

I took it about 5 years ago. I had been doing anesthesia coding for about 5 years at that point. There were a lot of anesthesia questions and maybe 1/4-1/3 Pain Management questions as I recall. Know your modifiers and the situations when you'd use them. Physical status modifiers were also important to understand. If you are able to bring a resource, the ASA Relative Value Guide is a great one. It has additional information and all the base units noted, along with physical status and (if I remember correctly) the AA/QK/QX/QZ series. I didn't have it that day and remember wishing I did.

Feel free to PM me if you'd like. Good luck! :)

Kellie
