We are having problems with Champus denying procedure code 99170 due to age of patient. Does anyone have any reference to age specific on this code. My patients age range is under 18 usually under 15.

Thanks,

Definition of Child

I find that CPT is inconsistent (or non-existent) in defining terms such as "child." Other codes (skin grafting) specify under age 10.

I would ask CHAMPUS directly what age range they use for this code. You might have to just use colposcopy codes if your patient(s) is(are) over their age range.

Hope that helps.
