When my doctor is performing a lumbar fusion surgery via a posterior approach, he performs anterior osteotomies in addition to the posterior osteotomies. Are the anterior osteotomies billable/payable on a posterior approach? I have always known it as you can only code based on the approach, so I have not been billing the anterior osteotomy but my doctor disagrees. I'm looking for some input and possibly references on this situation.
