What procedures involving the thoracic spne and cord would require an anterior transthoracic approach?

I believe this approach may be considered for treatment of disk herniations, anterior release and/or instrumentation for spinal correction, decompression, fusion, and/or instrumentation for spinal fractures, and neoplasms.

Should the operative report clearly state this approach?

Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jamie

Yes, the op report should clearly describe the approach for these procedures.

You may want to post this question under neurosurgery. I would think anyone dedicated to coding for this specialty would be better able to answer your question.
