Our acute care facility employs an ARNP in the hospital infusion department. She administers all chemotherapy infusions and has her own NPI. Is she the "attending" provider for facility billing purposes?

I would appreciate comments and if you have a reference to CMS guidance, it would be most appreciated.

ARNP supervising chemo

It is my understanding that due to the complexity of chemo only a physician can supervise its administration.
One citing is the Part B News issue 2478/7/08

ARNP supervising chemo

A nurse practioner cannot supervise chemo...must be a physician.
One cite is Part B Bulletin 247 8/7/08.
It is because of the complexity and risk.
