A GI doc wants to exchange a MIC-KEY tube bedside in Pre-Op. Is this billable in an ASC? Where can I find documentation regarding allowing or disallowing this? I am unsure why the procedure isn't being done at the Dr's office since it's not being done in a procedure room. Thanks for any guidance.

Yes you can do this procedure in ASC but the payment from the insurance company is a lot less if they do it in the office setting. I would educate the physicians of this and maybe get with the billing department to find out the difference in payments between the two places of service. ASC pays about $150-$200 and office pays $400-$450.
