I have a general surgery MD who insists that his MA's add the assessments for all of his office visits (consults for surgeries, endoscopies, etc). He further wants them to document the status of the patient's chronic problems in order to add those chronic problems to the visit's assessments as well. The MD doesn't address the chronic problems, the MA merely asks the patient how they're doing. He doesn't think he should assign the dx code at the end of his visit (we are on EMR) because it takes too much time--our practice mgmt is pushing for all the providers to assign these codes, not the ancillary staff.

Any advice/suggestions?
