I hope someone can help me very soon! I am being told by a doc that when you charge for an assist on a procedure, the assist is allowed, the surgeon's reimbursement is decreased because of it. I did not think that to be true and it is the first time I have heard this. Does anyone know?

If you are referring to the Assistant Surgeon (AS or 80 modifier) then the assistant fee is reduced but not the surgeon. Assistant fee's range from 14-17% of the surgeon's allowed charge
