Hello,
On the medical record is it possible to code more than one type of Asthma? For example can the provider code Asthmatic Bronchitis and Cough Variant Asthma? I'm learning as a CPC-A and have received education from my mentor/ supervisor in the past where they've said it's ok to code more than one type. My colleague briefly mentioned that only one asthma diagnosis is needed. Of course when communication happens through messaging there isn't always clarification. Looking to see what others know. Thank you

Hello, I am not an expert but per coding guidance (which is very helpful to read and re-read for each Chapter), we can code as many Dx as needed (must be documented) to fully describe a medical condition. For example, if the documented condition is described in 3 words and the Index didn't provide you 1 code that combines all 3 words, then you can add a second, third code To fully described the medical illness.
