How do your Drs go about getting authorizations for procedures done in the hospital? Drs used to be covered under the hospitals auth, but over the last couple of years the Ins cos are requiring Drs to get their own Auths.
Thank you!

Our insurance and pre-cert departments call and obtain the authorization under the physician Tax-ID and for the professional aspect of the procedure, not the technical. Typically, there is a number provided on the patient's Insurance ID card, if not, speaking with a representative can help get you the number or department you need. I've never understood why a physician's office would 'ride' the hospital auth since typically they are two separate entities and file accordingly. In my mind, there should be an auth 'attached' to that physicians name, persay.
