Place an AV Fistula closed the incision. Then made a separate incision and ligated a vein on that fistula.
At this time, the previously
identified lateral side bunch of the cephalic vein in the distal one-third of
the forearm was identified and a 1 cm transverse incision made overlying its
course with a scalpel and carried down through subcutaneous tissues with careful
use of Bovie electrocautery. The vein was identified and using blunt
dissection with a right angle, a 2-0 tie was passed circumferentially around the
vein and this was tied down, thereby ligating the side branch. This incision
was then closed in an interrupted fashion with 4-0 Monocryl. The wounds were
then cleaned and covered with dry sterile dressings.
