We have a patient that requested a B12 injection for the prevention of Lyme Disease. Does anyone know how I would code that reason for the injection?

Thanks!

This wont be covered for the patient insurance so make sure you get a waiver and that they self pay (Some vitamin makers say Vitamin D can help treat Lyme but its not a preventative measure) Its usually only covered for anemia type DX.

The following may work if patient suspects they may have been exposed to a tick or other carrier of lyme disease

Z20.818 - Contact with and (suspected) exposure to other bacterial communicable diseases
