I am new to Bariatric coding and was wondering what you consider pre op vs an office visit. When the patient comes back after initial consultation several months later and the Doctor reviews all reports i.e. cleared by nutrition, exercise and psych evaluations, EGD and the decision for surgery is made at that time because they have me all NIH guidelines. A History, HPI, exam and the MDM scheduled surgery would you bill this as a pre op or an E/M?
 
We are having the exact same issue in our practice. I am curious as to how others are treating this situation...
