Hi there,
I am a new coder and I would appreciate anyones opinion on the question.
What is the time frame for current injury versus old injury? If a patient has an injury that happened 3 months ago is this considered current or old?

Thanks for any help in advance.
Bonnie:

It is not a current injury. You use V codes for aftercare. Or if there are residual effects you code the problem with 905-908 code for late effect of the injury. Coding clinics have stated in several issues that after active treatment is applied the injury is no longer coded as active you use the appropriate V code for the healing phase.
