I am looking for some input on a billing debate we have going. When billing physician assistant as surgical 1st assist, BCBS (georgia) is paying as out of network. they are telling us that they do not credential/contract PA's so i am unable to get them "in network". i am unsure of other steps to take, our in house debate is 1)coders want to bill charges with the PA as rendering provider and will bill patient for monies paid to them under their out of network benefits or balance bill for deductibles, etc..... 2)admin wants to bill with the surgeon as rendering and attach the -AS modifier
does anyone else bill BCBSGA for PA's as asst surgeons & can tell me how your office deals with the charges? BCBS provider relations was not much help.
