I need assistance coding the following:

Right eye retinal detachment and hemorrhage with macular degeneration

Coding 361.9, 362.81, and 362.50 just doesn't feel right for this situation. It may just be me but are there codes that more specifically encompass this patient's diagnoses?

There are definitely more specific codes for the RD than 361.9, and macular degeneration than 362.50 as well. You always want to code at the highest level of specificity that you can find in the documentation, and only use unpsecified codes when there is nothing else appropriate.

Query the doctor, the hemorrhage could mean that it's an exudative detachment or it could be wet or exudative ARMD? But if you're unable to ask the doc, you really have to use unspecified dx's if there is nothing else in the exam documentation that tells you what's going on with the pt.
