Wiki Biller

are you asking if you can bill an E/M for say bronchitis and then also a preventive 993XX code for a pap/pelvic? You can yes, according the coding guidelines. Bronchitis dx gets attached to the E/M and V76.31 to the preventive. Your provider has to document separate E/M elements to support the sick dx (i.e. HPI, ROS Phys Exam).... BUT payers will not pay the provider for both codes. He'll get paid for the code with the lowest payable fee schedule amount. Suggest the patient makes 2 separate appt for 2 DOS.

Beginning oct 1 you can no longer bill a visit for a complaint with a preventive. Look at the ICD-10 CM codes for the general exam. Signs and symptoms cannot be billed with these codes.

The short answer is yes, you can. Put a 25 mod on the diagnostic E/M code, some payers want it on both.... they will pay for both, they do for the family practice and pediatrician i've worked for.
