We have a physician leaving and a new physician prob won't start until august. We have a locums np that will work over the summer for approx 4 months. How would i bill these claims then since she's filling in for a doctor that has left and will work for over 60 days. Bill under her npi only or one of the remaining 3 doctors still here? Would she have to be credentialed with all ins carriers if i have to bill under her npi only and if not would she still need credentialed with carriers if i bill under another docs npi?

Locum Tenens

It is my understanding the the Locum Tenens concept only applies to physicians. You may need to credential the NP to your clinic. Also I believe there is a 60 day limitation.

H. Payment Under Locum Tenens Arrangements
The B/MAC may pay the patient’s regular physician for services of a locum tenens physician during the absence of the regular physician where the regular physician pays the locum tenens on a per diem or similar fee-for-time basis, and certain other requirements are met. (See §30.2.11.)
