Hi, I have a question I am hoping someone can help with.

The endocrinologist at our clinic is thinking about providing telemedicine services, and she is wondering how she would meet the 1997 auditing guidelines for E/M codes without providing an actual physical exam.

New patient office visit codes are allowed in telemedicine, but it would impossible to meet 2 in 9 exam areas (for a comprehensive exam) without having physical contact with the patient. Does anyone know if the nurse with the patient is supposed to conduct the physical exam?

If not, are there special auditing requirements for a telemedicine visit?

Thank you,

Coral
