The question below was asked by the practice manager. I know we cannot bill prolonged care for a nurse providing education but is there something else we can bill or is this considered part of the office overhead?

If a patient comes in and sees a provider, can we bill a prolonged service E&M when a patient requires the nurses to provide teaching on meds/injections? I have been informed that the teaching takes up to an hour at times.

98960 is one option but it may bundle to the office visit. I have not had need for this code lately so I have not checked CCI edits recently.
