hello all,

Can someone help me...if Dr. does a basic EGD and a basic Colonoscopy can one dx be used for both or does each one need its own dx?

Thanks.

Depends on the dx

The dx needs to be what the Op notes say by the Dr. Sometimes a person has Anemia or GI bleeding, that works for both IF the Dr says that is what it is. However, if a person has a bx from the upper GI and the lab confirms 530.10(esophagitis) and the Dr bx's the colon and lab shows 562.10(diverticulosis), then you need to code each as diagnosed by the lab. The above w/o bx is also true, one can be dx with 562.10 and 530.81. You need your Dr Op notes.
