I have a cardiovascular clinic that would like to add a cardiologist temporarily to cover hospital call. Can we bill this as a locums under the surgeon in the clinic even though they are different specialties, i.e. cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon and cardiologist? Thanks for any input!

Make sure you read the Medicare Locum Tenens guidelines. Locums cannot be used in the situation that you describe. They are used to take the place of a provider who is returning. They are not to be used for short staffing. In my opinion, you will need to credential the physician.
