We are having problems getting NST paid for our physician for a twin pregnancy. This would be the read only so we are billing with 26 modifier. Should we be splitting those up and billing with a 59 or do we bill with units? Or do we charge for only one reading? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Josie

When our office billed NST for multiple fetuses we would put the appropriate number in the units. This may get denied for medically unlikely edits (MUE) but you can appeal that with the notes showing that there were multiple fetuses and that an NST was done on each one.
