I have a provider who captures the ESS and Fatigue scale that are administered with CPT 96127 Behavioral assmt W/score and Docd/standard instrument. Typically this code is used for Depression/Anxiety screening. I do no typically code for the Sleep Study doc but this seems like a misuse of the code. Is there a different way to capture the admin of these tools?
 
Can you give more detail on what the doctor is trying to do? If they using it to diagnose a medical condition that is not an appropriate use of the code per CPT Assistant.
 
He is not using as diagnostic tool, but assessing how he is responding to use of CPAP machine. I do not think this code was intended to capture these assessments. They are not behavioral related.
