My provider did injections today into each shoulder. When billing 20610 bilaterally, should the units be changed from 1 to 2, or does modifer 50 automatically imply that it is 2 units? This should be a very easy thing but a coworker of mine has me questioning this and I just need to be certain I am doing it correctly.

When modifier 50 is applied units should be just (1) & double your charge amount. If you use (2) units do not use modifier 50 or it will deny for to many as it looks like (4). If you are billing for Aetna however, use the (2) units & 50 because they are special.
