Have a scenario -
1. Patients are scheduled for NCV/EMG
2. Doctor is sick that day and in his place a person who trains fellows on EMG at Emory is sent in
3. Receive an email asking that we do not bill the EMG codes but we are to bill the NCV codes out under the ill physician (who has given permission to bill out using his name)

My instinct is telling me not to do this but I haven't had a lot of exposure to NCV/EMG billing. Can someone let me know whether it is ok to bill NCV codes out using an ordering physician that was sick and not present on the day that the NCV/EMG was done?

Thank you!!

Maybe this will help...

From AAN:

What is the Academy's position?
The AAN Professional Association (Academy) opposes efforts by non-physicians to permit the performance of needle EMG by non-physicians.

From AANEM:

I believe the supervising MD would have to be present in the suite though. Others may have more information but this is the rule we've always followed.
