When billing for outpatient labs (UB04) the physician orders a CMP (80053) and is collected/resulted on the same DOS (8/10). Nine days later (8/19) he orders a SPEP (81455) from the same specimen previously collected, and the SPEP is resulted on 8/19).
I know if both tests were performed on the same day, CPT code 81455 is inclusive to CPT code 80053. The specimen was collected on the same day for both tests, however, they were ordered and resulted on different dates.
Do I bill the SPEP (81455) for the date it was collected or the date it was resulted?
Do I bill both for the date the specimen was collected?
Can I add modifier -XE to CPT 81455 to indicate a separate encounter?
Does § 414.510 apply to this?
