Wiki Billing the 77080 yearly for osteoporosis

Can a bone density test 77080 be billed yearly on a patient that has osteoporosis but chose not to have therapy/medication for it last year, but the doctor wants another bone density done now (12 months later) to re-evaluate the patient. In this case the patient is on Medicare - Novitas.

Yes. If you check the LCD for that code it states that it will not allow more than 1 every two years except for one of the following...Untreated patient with osteoporosis who refuse therapy and require close monitoring becasue of high risk for further bone loss. Osteoporosis is a covered diagnosis.
