I took the exam - and was asked what the codes were to bill for twins born vaginally. Currently I code this as a 59400 for Baby A and mother and Baby B gets coded with a 59409. This however was not one of the mutiple choice options. Am I billing this wrong as I am getting payment on this. What does the AAPC consider the correct way to code a twin delivery?
 
My guess is they were assuming that they only delivered the babies vaginally. 59400 is when you do all the prenatal care the delivery and the postpartum care. If they only delivered the twins I would code it as 59409 and 59049-59. If they did the whole package then it would be 59400 and 59409-59. If they Did the delivery and the postpartum it would 59410 and 59409-59. Hope this helps.
