Wiki Biopsy vs Excision of lesion

This might be a stupid question but what is the difference between a biopsy of an eyelid lesion and excision of eyelid lesion ? Most times when they remove a lesion they send it pathology anyways so how can i tell if it's an excision or biopsy ?
 
I think i answered my own question, if the lesion is completly removed it would be excision but if just a piece or portion is removed and sent then its a biopsy.
