Patient had a previous total hip arthroplasty done 3 years ago. Now has an infection.
The surgeon does an I & D and then a bipolar arthroplasty.

My question is do I use code 27125 for the bipolar arthroplasty? Or, because patient had a previous total hip arthroplasty, do I use 27138 ? He only replaced the head, as the stem
was OK. I could be completely off with my choices, but this has totally confused me.

Please help
 
I would use 27137 since the head was only replaced along with 996.69 for the dx. I definitely wouldnt code for the hemiarthroplasy. Hope this helps :)
