We are having a problem with Blue Cross (seems to be most lines of business) paying for an IUD check. They are changing the CPT code from an E+M code to an annual code. I have tried appealing, sending in letters and records clearly indicating the patient was not seen for her annual exam, but they refuse to process the claim as an E+M code. Is anyone else having problems with this? We are using IDC 10 code Z30.431 Encounter for routine checking of intrauterine device, and usually either 99212 or 99213 CPT. All of our other payors seem to be paying IUD checks fine. Any thoughts?
