How should the code for the body mass index be determined? Do I choose a code by the patient's name or by the actual index for adults over 20 yrs of age. Does anyone know where I would get documented information on this matter?

A physician must document the type of obesity or overweight before you use the BMI code.

You can use physician or nutritionist documentation of the BMI to code the BMI.

Coder's calculation of BMI does not comply.
