Hi,

Can anybody explain how to identify the "Microscopic evaluation of surgical margins Breast" in the documentation to differentiate the CPTs 88305 and 88307.

Have the diagnosis say that the margins were microscopically examined and what the findings were, usually free of malignancy. This shows that the margin exam was necessary for the complete diagnosis.

The exception would be fibroadenoma which is 88305 since a margin exam is considered unnecessary. (CAP Today Feb. 1999)
