Coding a case where patient presented for antegrade nephrostogram though existing nephrostomy, brush biopsy of the distal left ureter, and replacement of nephrostomy tube. I've coded 50394, 74425, 50398, 75984 for the nephrostogram/tube change (as this is not a routine change), but I'm wondering what to code for the BX. I know for the biliary system SIR recommends using an endoscopy code for brush bx during tube placements/changes, but would that apply to the urinary system also (i.e. could 50555 be used for this)? Or should I use 53899? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
