Hello,
Need some help. I have a shave BX of the lip would I use 40490 or 11102?

Thanks!

The desk top definition of the 40490 says:
"The physician performs a biopsy of a lesion on the lip. An incision is made in the lip and a portion of the lesion together with some normal tissue is removed. The surgical wound is closed directly."
Since the 'shave' doesn't usually address getting some 'normal' tissue and there was no closure, the 11102 seems like the more appropriate code in this situation.
Hope this helps.
