What primary dx code would you use for a scheduled c section due to prior shoulder dystocia ?

Your only choice is a history of code so look at O09.82 (if they had to do a maneuver during the last pregnancy for the dystocia), or O09.29 or O09.89 whichever seems best - I think I would opt for O09.89 in this case. But also keep in mind that ACOG guidelines indicate that an automatic cesarean for this history is not warranted without additional issues such as diabetes or a very large fetus so you might want to query the provider on any other possible supporting indications for this cesarean to avoid a denial - or at least be ready to present additional information if it requested.
