In fall of 2021, CMS issued a statement that ESD would now be covered using HCPC code C9779. I've seen hospital outpatient info (APC 5313) in the statement, but there is no description of physician professional fee anywhere. Encoder Pro reveals the code is indeed for ESD, but there are no dollar amounts allotted for physician fees. I've also heard through the grapevine that CMS reversed the initial decision, but can't find anything in writing about that. I understand C9779 has a SI of J1, which means no other procedures should also be billed during the same encounter, but it says nothing about whether physician fees should be paid. Does C9779 allow for physicians to be reimbursed for their professional services?
