Hello!

I've reached out to a couple experts but just wanted to see if anyone else had any official guidance or advice on this...(and I think they would be correct that I can't charge for delivery)
We are a small private practice but our local hospital uses our doctors for their L&D, I know whenever the hospital staff such as one of their nurses delivers one of our patients we cannot charge or claim the delivery, but in this instance she precipitously delivered with no one in the room, but one of our doctors on the floor/unit would we then be able to claim the delivery?

thanks!

My question to the documentation would be, who followed up with the placenta delivery to make sure it was complete? If your doctor was called in to complete the precipitous delivery, then I would bill under their NPI since the MD was on site and ultimately overseeing all deliveries on their floor. It should be part of the contract with the hospital. Maybe query your administrator to see if they can review the hospital contract for such an agreement. Great question!
