Can I use a 99223 initial hospital care code twice within the same year? The patient was seen by my physician in January 2013 for the first time, now in May she was seen again.

Yes. The initial hospital care codes do not have the same "new/establ patient" rules as clinic visits. If this is a separate encounter, another initial visit code may be used, provided documentation guidelines are met.

Hope this helps!
