Dr. Uro/gyn revisies a prosthetic vaginal graft (57295). In doing so he causes a ureterotomy during disection. Now Dr Urogyn needs to call in Dr. Urologist to reimplant the ureter back into the bladder. Dr. Uro/gyn opens the abdomin, palpates a few organs, notices some diverticulosis on the sigmoid and wants to code as a diagnostic laparotomy.

Question 1: Should we code for the exploratory laparotomy?

Question 2: Instead of an exploratory laparotomy, let's say that Dr. Uro/gyn just did the opening for Dr. Urologist. Without using a modifier -62 or -80, can Dr. Uro/gyn bill for the opening or does he lose out because they don't want to use a -62 or an -80?

Thank you for any insight on this one.
