Has anyone ever used the Cardio-Thoracic Book from the AMA? I'm going to be learning Surgery for this Specialty, so I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on a good book to learn the surgeries with diagrams etc... Any help would be appreciated:)

I haven't used those books before but I had my physician purchase the Optum 360-Cardiology/Cardiothoracic/Vascular surgery book. I gives a good explanation of the surgical procedures. We purchase a new book about every two years. I think it's extremely helpful. I also "always" recommend the STS (Society of Thoracic Surgeons) coding seminar. It's always a great source of information, I always bring questions of cases that I have trouble coding and it's a great networking tool too. It's always in Nov at a different location across the US. This year it's in Hollywood, CA, Nov 16-18th. It's a bit pricey (being on the west coast this year) but I negotiate with my surgeon on paying for the seminar. It never hurts to ask!!
