I have a conundrum. I am a great surgery coder who is horrible at E/M, but I muddle through with a lot of help from co-workers. I am getting conflicting answers on my current dilemma. I have 3 cardiologists and one cardiothoracic surgeon. They are all in the same group, but bill under different taxonomy codes. Here is the question. If my cardiologist sees a patient in the hospital and that patient requires surgery from my surgeon, are the cardiologist's subsequent visits considered global to the surgery, or are they billable? If they are billable, do they need the -24 modifier? Thanks in advance for any advice.
